After taking a considerable amount of time off to think about what my passions were, I felt creating a blog to express my thoughts, interests and ideas would serve as my online diary.  And to share them with an audience...  I usually use Facebook as a way to share whatever is going in my head but that restricts my audience to just friends and family.  There are so many things I would love to share outside of my personal network.  Maybe I'll only have an audience of hundreds outside of that, perhaps just five.  However large my readership will be, I am just excited to be able to have a place to where I can write about my passions: fashion, culture, lifestyle, food and travel.

The name Tea with Tran comes from my LOVE of tea and obsession with finding new cafes.  While in Europe, I always managed to have engaging conversations with complete strangers in a cafe (i.e. getting travel and foodie tips from the manager of Lenny Kravitz and Jimmy Buffet in Paris - completely unforgettable experience!!).  Why not have the same type of conversations online?

A little bit about myself?  I grew up in Texas (yeehaw! ) and moved to Manhattan after graduating from college.  As much as I loved the South, I felt I needed a city to challenge me.  No other city in the world can do that but New York.  I knew life in New York was going to be tough and not as glamorous as Charlotte, Miranda, Carrie and Samantha made it out to be.  I wish I could afford designer shoes and a cute apartment on the UWS on a writer's salary...

My first gig in the city was as a paralegal at a top law firm.  A BA in History limited my options!  I quickly knew that was not for me.  Then I  switched to finance.  At the time, I thought since I was detail-oriented, finance would be a reasonable transition?!  Truthfully, never disliked the field of finance, in fact, I enjoyed it.  However, did not think it was something I could do for the rest of my life.

When I told people my "profession," they were shocked - still unsure if it was a compliment or not - and assumed I was in something like fashion... Fashion was always an interest of mine - just never thought it could be my career?  Didn't think and still don't think I fit in the "fashion" world despite my obsession with and discovering upcoming designers.  Anyway, to make a long story short (too late huh?), I quit my comfortable finance job in April 2012 and became a globe-trotter for the rest of 2012.  Note: Details on my travels in upcoming posts.  During my time abroad, I knew that I needed to make a change in my life.  Now I am working on the biggest project in my career thus far, starting a lingerie line.  Scary scary scary!!!  Before it's launch (sometime next year, hopefully), I am and will be working on various gigs to help me with the process.

So I'm back in Manhattan chasing this enormous dream and just hoping one day it all comes to fruition ...
